BeckPassed away peacefully on March 7, 2007 at the age of 64.He leaves behind a large, loving family, which extends to almost everyone that ever knew him. Bill was born in Pittsburgh on October 10, 1942, the youngest son of Robert A and Katherine W. Beck.He grew up in Mt. Lebanon and graduated from Mt.Lebanon High School. Following college, Bill began his working career with H.K. Porter Co. in Pittsburgh. That had not gone far when Uncle Sam called him to serve his country. Having completed Army basic and advanced infantry training, Bill secured an appointment to Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA He earned his commission and served his country until 1967.It was during this period that he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Helen Wilson, nicknamed "George" of Mt. Lebanon. Together they produced two sons, Christopher, of Lake Tahoe, California and Bryan, of Mt.Lebanon,PA Chris and his wife,Christy, are the parents of two daughters, Kyiee and Maci, who captivated their grandfather from the moment they were born. Bryan and his wife, Adrian, are the parents of a daughter, Bailey and a son, Emerson, whom he doted on daily as they were not only his grandchildren but neighbors as well. Following his military service, Bill joined the John G.Beck Agency, Inc., an insurance brokerage firm founded by his grandfather, John G. He went to work with his father, Robert, his brother, Richard and several other partners in what was a highly successful and respected agency providing insurance and bonding services to the construction industry in western Pennsylvania. In later yearsthe agency was acquired by a larger brokerage firm, which then merged with even larger firms. Bill rose to become President of the succeeding firm, Willis Corroon Corporation, now trading simply as Willis.During his career Bill served both the insurance and construction communities with committed devotion. Over the years he served on countless committees and boards , representing both insurance and construction interests at the local, state and national levels. He was considered a true "professional" in the field of casualty insurance as it relates to construction. Whether it was his family, his four grandchildren, his professional colleagues, his sailing "mates," his golfing pals or his clients, Bill was a devoted friend. He was always available and always ready to help. On long distance sailing adventures, Bill would always stand the worst watches so others could get more rest. He had a big heart and a bigger smile. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.There will be a Celebration of Life service on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at 3:00pm in Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church. 900 Country Club Drive, Mt.Lebanon, PA Burial will be &
tribute by Connie Kilb AlgeoBill Beck, my dearest friend from first grade on. Bill taught me how to do the butterfly and his brother got me playing the guitar. Our families were like one and we shared the same maid Laura who kept us straight when we were young. South Hills CC as kids all summer in the pool to sailing with Bill in the Chessie and in the Windward Islands....to playing golf the last few years in Naples and Boca. I will never forget him and miss him all the time.....so fond many memories. George, I will be hoisting a scotch for him on the 7th of March and will call his brother Dick too. God Bless Bill Beck.....never angry, never a bad day and never said a bad thing about anyone. Wish we all could be more like Bill Beck.
