Hi all, Bart was beloved by all of our MtL '62 classmates and those in other classes at Mt. Lebanon too, who were all a part of Bart spinning the 45's at the Rec, especially on a Friday night after a football game. He keep Porky, WAMO and that oldies music alive for us at every reunion. It was such a pleasure to see him every five years at our reunions. Hats of to George Watt and those who held the annual Christmas Party (Birthday?) for Bart. I remember that Bucky Hamilton was there every year for that event. Bucky was probably there each year for the young waitress or for sure Amy, Jeanne and Cindy (and other female classmates who attended) who were always there too. Now Bart is up there spinning platters for those who got there slight ahead of us. Bart will be dearly missed. Every time I saw him at the reunions he always remembered I picked him up and took him to one of our parties back in the day. I remember doing that but sure do not remember where the party was, but he remembered all the details and retold them to me at every reunion. He kept our high school memories alive and I loved hearing him talk about the Platter Pushing Poppa...Porky. RIP Bart, you meant so much to so many of us. To Bart, Mt. Lebanon's most beloved DJ and remembered by so many of us growing up in Mt. Lebanon during our high school years!!!! Rick Toucey
tribute by Rick TouceyBart was special to everyone who knew him as he overcame so many challenges and always greeted everyone with a smile. He loved our Class and always came to reunions and danced with his "ladies". We had a Christmas lunch for him every year and he delighted in bringing candy and calendars for his "ladies" and so looked forward to seeing his special ones there. He often walked the downtown streets of Mt. Lebanon, ate at Mineo's and made use of bus transportation to go to Pirate games and stop at The Hard Rock Cafe where he was a regular and had a few girlfriends. Bart worked at the Mt. Lebanon Ice Rink for over 30 years and lived in an apartment by himself on Washington Road. During HS he bought and brought his own records to the REC and played Porky's dusty discs, for many classes from our era. He spun his 45 rpm discs from behind the REC's counter for our dancing and listening pleasure. I had the privilege of working behind the counter with Bart for a couple of years and it was a special time as he was so dedicated to playing the sounds we wanted to hear, and he wanted us to hear, so we could "slip and slide" on the REC's dance floor. He introduced us to many up and coming soon to be "hits" that we would not have heard on popular radio station KQV. He loved to imitate Porky Chedwick, repeating, "Your Platter Pushin' Papa, the Daddio of the Radio". Porky played his dusty discs on WAMO, an unknown radio station, to our parents, which was broadcasting from Homestead. Porky was Bart's hero. And he was ours as, thanks to Bart, everyone wanted to be "Porkified" ! It was the golden age of rock 'n' roll and Bart was a big part of it and a big part of the lives of everyone who knew him and danced to his "sounds". At Christmas lunches Bart would suddenly surprise the restaurant's customers as he belted out "Boogie, Boogie, Boogie, Boogie Shoo. They had no idea who this guy was or what was going on - but we knew! RIP Bart. Few have had to endure the challenges you successfully faced down in life. George Watt
